History

The 8 1/8” x 11 ½” kite is from the January 20, 1998-September 26,1999 installations at the MCA Chicago. Photos of the installation can be seen here: https://mcachicago.org/Exhibitions/1998/Jacob-Hashimoto-An-Infinite-Expanse-Of-Sky

The installation consisted of 10,000 handmade kites which were suspended from the ceiling to form a single arch above the seating area in the café.  The installation was the artist’s first solo museum exhibition.

The Mount

A custom tabletop mount was fabricated for support and minimal display of the piece to highlight the details of the handmade kite.

The mount was finished in white while the back of the armature was toned to visually integrate with the kite’s construction on the contact points.

The museum-quality mount supports the weight of the piece without the use of adhesive or compression of the artwork.
